The week in results
Nine Premier League matches were played between 26 October and 1 November, and they produced 20 goals. Eight of them were played on 31 October. The ninth, Liverpool against Arsenal, followed on 1 November.
The results in full:
- Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United
- Bournemouth 2-0 Leeds
- Manchester City 0-1 Brighton
- Brentford 2-0 Nottingham Forest
- Hull City 2-2 Ipswich
- Coventry 3-1 Sunderland
- Tottenham 2-0 Crystal Palace

- Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal
Four matches finished 2-0 to the home side. Two ended level, with Hull City and Ipswich sharing four goals and Aston Villa and Fulham finishing 1-1. Two of the 1-0 results went to the away side, which made the week a good one for visitors in the biggest games.
Standout result
Chelsea's 2-0 win over Manchester United is the result of the round. It was one of several 2-0 scores, but it matters most for the table. Chelsea now sit 4th on 16 points from 9 games, with a goal difference of 4. Manchester United are 17th on 7 points, with a goal difference of -5.
Two other results deserve a mention. Brighton won 1-0 at Manchester City, and Arsenal won 1-0 at Liverpool. Both were away wins against sides who sit in the top five, and both were decided by a single goal.
Coventry's 3-1 win over Sunderland was the only match in which a team scored three. Sunderland remain bottom.
The table as it stands
Manchester City lead on 21 points from 9 games, with a goal difference of 10. Arsenal are second, also on 21 points, but from 8 games, with a goal difference of 8. Brighton are third on 19 points from 9 games. Their goal difference of 17 is the best in the division. Chelsea are 4th on 16 points, and Liverpool are 5th on 15 points from 8 games.
Brentford are 6th on 14 points after their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Bournemouth, Tottenham and Aston Villa all have 12 points and are placed 7th, 8th and 9th. Their goal differences are 1, 0 and -3. Hull City, Leeds, Newcastle and Ipswich are on 11 points each in 10th to 13th. Newcastle have played 8 games, the others 9.
Everton are 14th on 10 points from 8 games. Fulham and Coventry both have 9 points, in 15th and 16th. Coventry's goal difference of -7 is the weaker of the two. Fulham's is -2.
The bottom four read as follows:
- 17th: Manchester United, 7 points, goal difference -5
- 18th: Crystal Palace, 7 points, goal difference -12
- 19th: Nottingham Forest, 6 points, goal difference -6
- 20th: Sunderland, 5 points, goal difference -10
Crystal Palace's goal difference of -12 is the lowest in the league. They lost 2-0 at Tottenham in this round. Nottingham Forest also lost 2-0, at Brentford, and have 6 points from 9 games.

What to watch next
The top of the table is tight. Manchester City and Arsenal are level on 21 points, and Arsenal have a game fewer. Brighton are 2 points behind City, with the best goal difference of any side. Liverpool and Newcastle also have a game in hand on most of the division.
At the other end, the gaps are small. Manchester United and Crystal Palace share 7 points, Nottingham Forest have 6 and Sunderland 5. Fulham and Coventry, on 9 points, are not far above them. A single round of results could change the order of the bottom six.
